The synagogue  was subject to negligence and  vandalization. During the  period of the French occupation, it was turned into a military  stronghold, and  also it was turned into a camp and bakery in the  period of Muhammad Ali. latterly, it came a cleaner  plant, and the British army used it as a military  storehouse and  also as a slaughterhouse until 1915.   The Committee for the Preservation of Arab agedness took control of the synagogue  in 1918. Before that, it was left in a dilapidated condition, with its  corridor worn out and its features destroyed.
